My research is within what we call conservation genetics. Most of my projects contain elements from behavioral ecology, evolutionary biology and molecular ecology. During my career I have focused my studies on birds. While earlier studies dealt with topics on behavior and evolution, I have lately concentrated on bird species with conservation concern. Using molecular markers to address many questions related to their ecology and reproductive behavior, as well as population structure, projects are aimed at obtaining results that can be implemented in conservation actions. I am particularly interested in identifying patterns that impose restrictions to species management, such as genetic differences in neutral or adaptive genes, as well as culturally transmitted behavioral characters.
